SERVICES

The Center for Data Management & Translational Research (MPHI-CDMTR) at MPHI provides public health and health care related research, evaluation, and data services, as well as technical assistance and training. Our advanced skills in program management, statistics, methodology, database design, software design, internet-based data collection, integration and analysis of large databases, program evaluation, and health policy research has earned us an outstanding reputation among our clients and funders. MPHI-CDMTR offers comprehensive project development and implementation services; however, MPHI-CDMTR can also serve in a more limited capacity, providing data collection services, training, facilitation, or technical assistance.

MPHI-CDMTR utilizes a collaborative approach on all of its projects, which includes developing partnerships with appropriate outside entities to accomplish the objectives of its projects. This approach provides MPHI-CDMTR with the flexibility to continue to expand its experience into new arenas. MPHI-CDMTR has active partnerships with faculty at three major universities and is well positioned to recruit qualified personnel for projects.

Project Development
MPHI-CDMTR has a strong record of successful grant writing. MPHI-CDMTR has worked with partners to obtain funding awards from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the (federal) Health Resources and Services Administration, the US Department of Justice, and the (federal) Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, among others.

Project Management
MPHI-CDMTR applies combined managerial and methods expertise to ensure timely completion of project activities, fidelity to project goals, and compliance with client requirements. MPHI-CDMTR can integrate and coordinate the activities of multiple investigators, community partners, and study sites. MPHI-CDMTR staff manage projects that range from working with small community based agencies to national projects that involve coordinating the participation of many community groups and organizations.

Research & Evaluation
MPHI-CDMTR has a broad base of experience conducting applied research, and process and outcome oriented evaluation. MPHI-CDMTR has expertise in each stage of the research and evaluation process, including: articulating goals, objectives, and hypotheses in light of existing knowledge and resources; developing the overarching design, incorporating multiple methods and multiple levels of analysis when appropriate; sampling; data collection; statistical analysis; applying qualitative methods such as focus groups and key informant interviews; and drawing implications and presenting results to scientific, professional, and lay audiences.

Instrument Development & Data Collection
MPHI-CDMTR can work with your organization to develop and test data collection instruments, sample survey participants, and design survey research. MPHI-CDMTR regularly partners with the Survey Research Unit (SRU) at MPHI, which has the capacity to conduct telephone and mail surveys, and to enter and verify survey data. SRU utilizes a CATI system with random digit dialing capabilities and multiple monitoring stations. The SRU facility is open six days a week and includes a 10-station CATI lab. Areas of SRU expertise include instrument design, administering lengthy (45-60 minutes) surveys, behavioral risk studies, “emotion handling,” reaching hard to contact respondents, managing longitudinal samples, training interviewers, and collecting data on sensitive topics.

Data Management
MPHI-CDMTR identifies and implements data solutions that are feasible, appropriate, and affordable. MPHI-CDMTR can obtain, adapt, and manage large, complex databases to address research, quality improvement, and evaluation objectives. In addition, MPHI-CDMTR can aggregate, warehouse, and analyze data from numerous entities for ongoing health surveillance, benchmarking, and quality improvement.

Technical Assistance, Consultation, & Training
MPHI-CDMTR provides technical assistance and consultation to other organizations in grant writing, program evaluation, data interpretation and application, and identifying best practices using the research literature. MPHI-CDMTR also provides training in grant writing and program evaluation.

Quality Assurance
MPHI-CDMTR has a reputation for delivering high quality services and products. MPHI-CDMTR’s approach to quality assurance involves detailed project management, close collaboration with clients, and the use of physical and technical safeguards. Security and confidentiality of sensitive information is a high priority for MPHI-CDMTR. Network servers are stored in a physically secure room that is locked at all times. MPHI-CDMTR maintains a firewall to isolate its own internal network from the Internet, and has systems in place to detect unauthorized access to the internal network resources. MPHI-CDMTR also has an Internal Review Board (IRB) and a staff person that ensures compliance with regulations established under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). All business contracts are reviewed by the IRB and the HIPAA privacy officer to assure that MPHI-CDMTR is adhering to all regulations relating to privacy and confidentiality.
