Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
Funding Source: US Department of Health and Human Services
Project Period: 1998 to present
Project Coordinator: Clare Tanner, PhD
Funded by the US Department of Health and Human Services, the purpose of this project is to support the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) and its partners in their efforts to improve public services to persons with a traumatic brain injury (TBI). The project is part of a State effort to improve access to services for individuals with traumatic brain injuries in Michigan. This project focuses on identifying, collecting, developing, and disseminating educational materials about TBI and available services in Michigan with the goal of improving service delivery and coordination. In addition, the project involves identifying data needs, avenues for policy change, and opportunities for prevention, such that the system of care is better equipped to meet the needs of individuals with TBI. MPHI supports and coordinates this multifaceted initiative in close partnership with MDCH.
An online training course was developed under the TBI project. This is a free, self-paced course that provides critical information about brain injury in an understandable and practical way. Anyone will benefit from this course, while professionals may earn continuing education credits for completing this course. The online training is available at www.mitbitraining.org.
More information about TBI and educational materials produced by the TBI project can be found at www.michigan.gov/tbi.
