State Planning Grant for Michigan's Uninsured
Funding Source: Michigan Department of Community Health
Project Period: October 1, 2004 - May 31, 2006
Project Coordinator: Greg Cline, PhD
The overarching goal of Michigans State Planning grant was to develop a plan that puts forth a set of realistic strategies and viable options that will lead to health insurance coverage for all Michigan residents and promote an understanding of uninsurance issues among key stakeholders and policy makers. MPHI-CDMTR collected data to identify the size and characteristics of the uninsured population in Michigan at the state and regional level. Data collection included a random-digit-dialed household survey, a mailed survey to 12,000 Michigan employers, focus groups with employers, insurance agents/brokers and uninsured consumers, and key informant interviews with employers and policy makers. The data from all activities created a picture of health insurance coverage in Michigan at the state and regional levels.
MPHI-CDMTR developed all of the survey questions, programmed and conducted the surveys, entered and verified data returned from the mail surveys, designed the sampling plan for all data collection activities, managed the data, outputted and analyzed the data from all of the surveys, and wrote the final reports for all data collection activities.
