Muskegon Coalition for Appropriate Antibiotic Therapy (MCAAT)
Funding Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local sources.
Project Period: October 1, 2002 through September 20, 2003
Project Coordinator: Clare Tanner, PhD
This project provided partial funding to support the development of both provider and patient microbial resistance educational materials, develop trainings for providers on antimicrobial resistance, and media materials for raising public awareness of antimicrobial resistance for the Muskegon Coalition for Appropriate Antibiotic Therapy (MCAAT). This project was the first project in the nation designed to raise awareness of antimicrobial resistance and reduce the misuse/overuse of antibiotic medications within the entire population of a county. These funds also provided partial support for an evaluation of the educational effort, conducted by MPHI-CDMTR. The results of this effort determined if such a broad-based effort could seriously affect changes in misuse/overuse of antibiotics and reduce the resistance of select bacteria within a population.
Project Type: Evaluation
