A Multi-State Comparison of Local Public Health Preparedness Assessment Using a Common, Standardized Tool
Funding Source: Robert Wood Johnson
Project Period: May 2005 October 2006
Project Coordinator: Mary Zack Thompson, MBA
MPHI-CDMTR at MPHI has collected emergency preparedness data for the Office of Public Health Preparedness at MDCH since November 2002 using Centers for Disease Control (CDC) tools modified for state purposes. Other states have used the CDCs tools at varying points in time. In this RWJF funded project, MPHI-CDMTR worked with public health institutes in Illinois and Kansas, along with the National Network of Public Health Institutes, to examine the three states approaches to collecting preparedness data. The data was analyzed using each states data analysis algorithm. The goal of the project was to assist governmental officials to identify common tools, measures, and methods to assess the level of preparedness across multiple jurisdictions. MPHI-CDMTR participated in methodological development, data management, and data analysis and reporting. The findings were widely disseminated nationally via a final report, conference presentations, and articles.
