Michigan Tobacco Quit Line Evaluation
Funding Source: Michigan Department of Community Health
Project Period: February 1, 2006 - September 30, 2006
Project Coordinator: Mary Zack Thompson, MBA
The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) Tobacco Quitline provides tobacco cessation information, referrals, and proactive telephone counseling to Michigan citizens that wish to quit using tobacco products. The telephone counseling program provides individuals five sessions with a health coach over a twelve month period. In October 2004, the Michigan Quitline also began providing a limited supply of free Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) to uninsured residents. MPHI-CDMTR was contracted by MDCH to conduct a process and outcome evaluation of this program. The process facet of the evaluation examined the procedures implemented for daily program functioning and provision of services, while the outcome facet measured the programs success at meeting its established objectives and assess its overall impact on the population served.
