Grand Traverse Band SPF-SIG Technical Assistance Project

Funding Source: SAMHSA

Project Period: December 2006 - September 2008

Project Coordinator: Julia Heany, PhD

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians received a SAMHSA SPF-SIG grant to study and prevent alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) abuse within their community. MPHI-CDMTR provides consultation to the Tribe on collecting and interpreting epidemiological ATOD data. These data will be used to inform prevention efforts funded under the grant. MPHI-CDMTR co-chairs the Tribes Epidemiological Workgroup convened under the grant, and, within this context, facilitates conversation regarding ATOD epidemiological data. MPHI-CDMTR also helps to compile an annual Epidemiological profile for the Tribe, describing the Tribes patterns of ATOD use and the consequences of ATOD abuse within the Tribe.
