Funding Source: Michigan Department of Community Health

Project Period: November 1, 2002 - September 30, 2003

Project Coordinator: Cheribeth Tan-Schriner, PhD, Chris Wojcik, MPH

MPHI-CDMTR assisted the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) in receiving, managing, and producing reports from service use and quality improvement data submitted by that state's 48 community mental health service programs. These reports were used by MDCH for program management and oversight of public mental health services. MPHI-CDMTR also continued assisting MDCH in defining requirements, business rules, and data quality edits for a new HIPAA-compliant electronic data interchange system to ensure the quality of the community mental health data entered into the State's data warehouse.

Throughout the course of this project, project staff members built relationships with CMHSPs to develop and enhance data submission protocols, simplify the data submission process, and provide the necessary training and technical assistance to help CMHSPs raise the quality of their data to a benchmark goal.
