Collaborative project on state based experiences in assessing local emergency preparedness using a common assessment tool
Funding Source: Robert Wood Johnson
Project Period: July, 2005 - November, 2007
Project Coordinator: Mary Zack Thompson, MBA
MPHI collected emergency preparedness data for the Office of Public Health Preparedness at MDCH beginning in November 2002 using CDC tools modified for state purposes. Other states have used the CDC’s tools at varying points in time. In this RWJF funded project, MPHI worked with public health institutes in Illinois and Kansas, along with the National Network of Public Health Institutes, to examine the three states’ approaches to collecting preparedness data. The data was analyzed using each state’s data analysis algorithm. The project assisted governmental officials to identify common tools, measures, and methods to assess the level of preparedness across multiple jurisdictions. Outcomes based on the use of different instruments and scoring algorithms have been reported.
