Alcestis

Funding Source: User fees paid by County Medical Examiner offices

Project Period: October 2005 to present

Project Coordinator: Joan Moore

Alcestis evolved from the Michigan Medical Examiner Database Initiative when funding ended. Alcestis continues to provide an internet-based system that provides medical examiners (ME) with the ability to electronically manage case information. Using a paper data collection tool called the Death Scene Investigation Report (DSIR), a scene investigator, law enforcement officer, or medical examiner gathers standardized data that will be entered into an online database via a secure website. MPHI continues to provide technical assistance and training to participating medical examiners and to manage the system for participants.
